There are enough media outlets and blogs elsewhere to honour the more recognised sportspeople, artists, writers, politicians and businesspeople who have had a good 2009. So I’m going to use this post to highlight an Irish person who conquered the world this year, and who has been shamefully ignored by the Irish media.

Above all else, one thing strikes me about the media commentary and analysis of the TV3 report about Brian Lenihan’s illness.  Statements like these:
“Oh, well, obviously there was a rumour doing the rounds”….
“It was understood that the Minister would make a statement in January”
“Most newsrooms had the story, but decided not to run it out [...]
